The Drive to Gulf Shores

We had a great time on the car ride to Gulf Shores.  Dad rented a big SUV for the trip which made it more fun.  First, we drove from McKinney to Bunkie, LA to stay at my great grandpa’s house.  It was a long ride that took all day!  We left at 10:00am and got to Bunkie at about 6:00pm.  We got to eat grilled chicken at a local restaurant, then we did some shopping at Piggly Wiggly.  It was the first time that I ever went to Piggly Wiggly.

Mississippi River BridgeWe got up early the next morning and we drove from Bunkie to New Orleans, LA.  On the way, we crossed the Mississippi River just outside of Baton Rouge.  It was the first time I ever saw this great river, and we got to drive across a really neat, old bridge.  We stopped in New Orleans to eat lunch at Mother’s Restaurant which was really neat.  Dad and I shared some shrimp and collard greens, but I didn’t eat the collard greens because I didn’t like them very much.  The coleslaw was good, though, and the shrimp were fantastic!  After lunch we walked to the Mississippi River and got to see an old timey river boat with a big paddle wheel.  We stopped at the Riverwalk mall for a few minutes, then got back in the car to drive to Gulf Shores.

First Day at the BeachIt took a long time to drive to Gulf Shores, but along the way we saw a big wild fire and we got to see Mobile Bay.  We got there at about 6:30pm and got the keys to our condo.  We drove to the condo and got unpacked.

That night we got to see the beach for the first time.  It was great to be walking on the sand and playing in the ocean water again.  After a quick stop on the beach we went back to Bruno’s to buy our groceries and get some dinner.  It was a late night, but I stayed up because I was having so much fun!
